Substation Design Technician (Job )
Substation Design Technician role: independent design support for substations. The successful candidate will work side‑by‑side with engineers to develop drawings, models, calculations and documentation on projects ranging from small to moderately complex.
Responsibilities- Work independently performing substation design tasks, including CADD design, drawing development, modeling and analysis, material lists, field reviews, etc.
- Prepare engineering drawings such as One Line Diagrams, General Arrangement Sections, Grounding & Conduit Plans, Foundation Plans, BOMs, relay and control system schematics, wiring diagrams.
- Perform calculations, reports and designs for Low, Medium and High Voltage substations and substation systems to support engineers.
- Follow client standards, execute small to moderately complex projects, exercising judgment in design criteria and evaluation, subject to engineer review.
- Operate independently on simple projects and with engineering guidance on moderately complex projects.
- Communicate with Project Managers, Project Engineers, and client personnel.
- Experience in both Protection & Control (Indoor) and Physical (Outdoor) aspects of High Voltage substation design.
- Knowledge of standard CAD software such as AutoCAD, Micro Station, etc.
- Previous experience in an engineering consulting firm.
- Technical proficiency with 3D design software and document management infrastructure.
- Competency in Microsoft Office and communication tools.
- Excellent communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
- Basic understanding of engineering or architectural concepts.

Compensation range (Montana): $19.60 – $30.70 per hour.
