Position: Land Surveyor.

Duties

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:

  • Plans and conducts survey and resurvey for complex issues for projects.
  • Direct field survey crew activities, coordinates and integrates separate phases of each survey project and exercises knowledge and judgment in adapting and applying field survey methods.
  • Checks work performed by the crew(s) to assure priorities, methods, and expected quality have been met.
  • Use various techniques for applying Land Surveyor principles applying field survey methods, techniques and procedures in the day-to-day operations.
  • Create survey field returns and prepares draft field notes and plats describing in detail the surveys performed using word processing and Computer Automated Drafting (CAD) software
  • Prepares or provides information for preparing all necessary administrative documents such as: time and attendance, vehicle maintenance and operational reports, accident reports, and weekly progress reports.
  • Develops complete written reports describing unique problems encountered, with recommendations, for technical examination.

Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

In Determining If Your Employment Advances The Public Interest, The Agency Will Consider

  • your performance and conduct;

  • whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.

Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated.

Upon completion of your probationary your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-08/12/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.

Minimum Qualifications GS-1373-7
  • Experience:

    In addition to meeting the Individual Occupational Requirement (see education section), you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience may include:
    1) Functioning as a member of a survey crew (2) Establish or monument survey corners and boundaries; and (3) Utilizing surveying equipment and instruments, such as global positioning systems or total stations. Your resume must include hours per week worked.

  • Education:

    Successful completion of at least One year of graduate-level education (18 semester hours) in land surveying; or civil engineering with a surveying option/emphasis that included at least 6 semester hours of surveying, 3 semester hours of land law, and 21 additional semester hours in any combination of the following: surveying, photogrammetry, geodetic surveying, geodesy, route surveying, remote sensing, cartography, survey astronomy, land…
