Rehabilitation Counselor

Overview

Rehabilitation Counselor 2 opportunity within the Disability Employment and Transitions Division of the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS). This role provides personalized counseling and employment support to individuals with significant mental and behavioral health disabilities, empowering job seekers to achieve competitive, integrated employment.

This position works with individuals to create personalized rehabilitation plans, guiding career planning and job development, providing on-site coaching, and ensuring access to assistive devices. Additional duties include purchasing and quality checks for goods and services. The role collaborates with Workforce partners, treatment teams, community providers, businesses, and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality, professional services for individuals with disabilities.

• Perform purchasing and quality checks for goods and services.
• Collaborate with workforce partners, treatment teams, community providers, businesses, and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality, professional services.

• Knowledge of psychosocial assessment and vocational rehabilitation counseling.
• Knowledge of assistive technology and disability rights, culture, and history.
• Ability to balance adherence to rules with the use of policies as a guide.
• Skill in working with individuals with disabilities.
• Ability to interpret and use medical and psychological information to make sound decisions.
• Ability to be proactive, organized, and manage caseloads.
• Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or a related field with coursework eligible to sit for certification.
• Two years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, career counseling, human services, or human resources.
• Certification by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) is highly preferred.
• Equivalent combinations of related education and experience may be considered.

• This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.
• This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 per hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2026.

Salary: $28.55 - $30.05 per hour. Telework Eligibility:
