Summary
This role is an experienced Data Architect with a strong focus on designing, implementing, and managing end-to-end data platform solutions using Databricks technologies on the Azure cloud. Under the office of the Customer Experience team, which is the home for the enterprise data and analytics function, and working closely with colleagues in IT, this role will support the efforts of the data and analytics team to ensure business value is derived from our data infrastructure in the early development and maturation of our data infrastructure.
Description
Design, build, and document Databricks & Azure-based technical solutions and data products, leveraging a broad range of available toolsets, with considerations around scalability, availability, reliability, maintainability, usability, agility, and securability.
Responsibilities- Act as a team lead on projects, directing the technology process and ensuring expectations are met to build trust and credibility.
- Implement end-to-end data platform solutions and support existing data lakehouse, which will include hands-on-keyboard engineering and development work.
- Serve as an effective technical mentor to more junior teammates and communicate efficiently and effectively with a variety of stakeholders in the business and IT departments.
- Keep abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and capabilities, within Databricks and otherwise, and continue to grow and develop the architectural skillset.
- Must comply with all company policies and procedures and all applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Must complete the assigned online training courses and achieve a passing score by due date.
Education
- Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or similar field with a significant quantitative component.
Experience
- Required:
7 years of experience building data solutions on cloud platforms, with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure and Databricks environments. - Required:
3 years of experience architecting data solutions on Databricks (any cloud). - Expert:
Experience with full life-cycle implementations of data platforms, including designing data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Databricks workflows. - Expert:
Developing data capabilities using SQL and Spark. - Advanced:
Software or data engineering development using Java, Python, or C/C++. (Python preferred.) - Advanced:
Experience with Azure data tools including Azure SQL Data Warehouse, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Dev Ops, and provisioning/configuring end-to-end Azure data services. - Preferred:
Experience in banking or similar financial services industry.

Skill & Abilities
- The ability to motivate or influence internal or external senior level professionals and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication skills across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to create data modernization roadmaps leveraging Databricks and Azure tools.
- Ability to manage compute/storage needs on Databricks (e.g., cluster definitions).
- Develop and improve metadata management, monitoring, event-driven orchestration, and related data pipeline features.
- Implement modern data architectures handling structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
- Knowledge of lakehouse architectures, medallion architectures, and Kimball-style star schemas.
- Ability to design logical and physical data models for cloud data warehouses like Databricks Delta Lake.
- Experience with Azure data tools and end-to-end Azure data services.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality.
Occasional travel required: less than 10 days per year by automobile, air, rental vehicles, and public transportation; able to lodge in public facilities.
Working ConditionsEnvironment: Indoors, a climate-controlled shared work area.

Vision: Close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and read computer screens and materials.
