Metalworker Craftsman (Pipefitter/Welder) works in the maintenance department of the Billings Refinery. Pipe fitters/Welders are responsible for fabrication, installation, preventive maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of refinery piping, tubing, valves and structures.

- Remove and repair high pressure piping and connection systems
- Repair flange leaks including tightening or replacing bolts, flanges, and gaskets
- Provide layout for fabrication and installation of piping systems including flanges, union, joints, gaskets, nozzles, etc., in accordance with design drawings
- Fabricate and/or repair piping, structures, vessels, etc., using various welding processes as required (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW)
- Move materials, tools, equipment, and subassemblies using trucks, forklifts, wagons, carts, dollies, etc.
- Set up work site with barriers, signs, tape, or flags
- Blind off pipes, vessels, tanks, exchangers, etc.
- Clean and finish welds using brush, grinder, chipping hammer, file, etc.
- Clean vessel head gaskets
- Work in a team environment and assist other personnel in accomplishing tasks
- Climb equipment and work in confined spaces at elevated heights as occasionally required, and work outside in all weather conditions
- Perform all duties in compliance with the Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System, applicable government regulations, industry best practices, and all other Phillips 66 policies and/or regulations
- Read blueprints, operate shop machinery, and perform metal layout and fabrication
- Inspect, test, maintain, and operate all equipment and tools to support and maintain required skills
- Sustain a well-kept and orderly site in the performance of all work duties
- Assemble rigging to lift and move equipment or material in the plant, inspect and select cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves according to weight and size of load to be moved, attach loads to crane hooks with grappling devices such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains, and direct workers engaged in hoisting machinery and equipment
- Perform pipe fitting tasks while wearing SCBA breathing air
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- High School Diploma or GED
- Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to:
- Work overtime
- Work in enclosed spaces, such as tanks and silos
- Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines
- Climb up to 250 feet in height
- Lift up to 79 pounds
- Work around chemicals, including acids and bases
- Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel‑toe shoes, ear, eye and/or fall protection)
- Maintain your face daily (i.e. clean shaven) so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly
- Perform fire fighting duties if needed
- Work outside in harsh weather conditions
- Work with petroleum products that are under high pressure and heat
- Read and understand written safety procedures, work procedures, work permits, and instruction manuals
- Perform pipe fitting tasks while wearing SCBA breathing air
- 3 years or more direct experience in a refinery or chemical plant environment, or related military service
- Previous ASME B31.1 or B31.3 welder certification
- Completion of an apprenticeship, certification (e.g., NCCER), or Associate's degree in Welding or related studies
- Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and identify corrective actions
- Ability to operate tools such as saws, drill press, and assembling structural metal
