Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care of patients. The Clinic RN utilizes the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice and coordination of care with other health team members in an outpatient clinic setting. Clinic RNs are pivotal members of the care delivery team headed by the physician and have specialized knowledge, skills and ability pertinent to ambulatory care patient needs.

Scope of performance includes prioritization and triage of care delivery, implementing established standing orders and protocols, performing procedures and therapies consistent with training and licensure.

Scope
  • Performs general nursing care to patients by following established standards and procedures.
  • Obtains patient consent for care and ensures patient confidentiality.
  • Obtains and documents health history, information on chief complaint, vital signs, and health risk factors and assesses disease condition.
  • Provides patient care based on practice guidelines, standards of care, and federal/state laws and regulations.
  • Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administers prescribed medications, monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response. Consults with physicians, other health providers, and community resources to prevent/resolve problems or concerns.
  • Educates patients and families about health status, health maintenance, and management of acute and chronic conditions.
  • Documents patient assessment and intervention data using established medical record forms/automated systems and documentation practices.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing is required
  • Current Montana Registered Nurse license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required
  • One (1) year related experience in a clinic or acute hospital nursing setting is required
Preferred
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred
Additional Requirements
  • Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts is required.
  • Knowledge of nursing processes; health care systems, structure, and functions; and community resources. Understanding of health care technology, equipment, and supplies. Familiarity with state law on nursing care, nurse practice guidelines, and clinic policies and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate to staff and patients.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and composure with the ability to take appropriate action in questionable or emergency situations.
  • Maintain a positive, caring attitude toward patients.
  • Possess a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism.
  • Critical thinking skills within scope of practice population health management and improvement of patient outcomes.
  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients, bend to retrieve, lift and carry supplies and equipment, including items of varying weights.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment, pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
