Registered Nurse Manager Perioperative

Overview

Job Description: This role applies to Nurse Manager and Nurse Manager-Complex. The nurse manager is responsible for managing and supervising nursing departments, collaborating with nursing leaders and other facility managers to ensure excellent patient care, achieve financial objectives, and foster leadership development. The position is accountable for developing departmental structure, processes, and outcome standards, typically for one unit. Responsibilities are distributed as follows: 50% Tactical (day-to-day activities like staffing and equipment availability), 40% Operational (budget management, supply acquisition, and employee performance evaluations), and 10% Strategic (developing goals to meet the Intermountain/Regional Strategic Plan and holding employees accountable to these goals).

Level 1 Nurse Manager: Manages 50 headcount or more than 2 departments and manages a department operating 24/7.

• Lead a high‑performing perioperative team at a regional hospital; oversee perioperative operations, staff, and patient care quality.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Mentor, develop, and support a strong clinical team.
• Ensure quality care, efficient operations, and alignment with the organization’s vision and values.
• Oversee budgets, staffing, equipment availability, and performance evaluations.
• Partner with physicians to achieve clinical, operational, and service goals at unit level.
• Support attendance and development of student nurses; participate in community/volunteer activities as appropriate.
• Ensure compliance with patient safety initiatives and regulatory bodies (Joint Commission, OSHA, CMS, DOPL, etc.).
• Foster staff engagement and professional development; manage recruitment and retention; verify competencies.

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution; degree verification required.
• Current RN license in state of practice; valid compact licenses transferred within 60 days of start.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.
• Leadership or supervisory experience.
• Completion of Intermountain Health leadership training within one year of appointment.
• Minimum 2 years of clinical experience.

• Specialty certification.
• Demonstrated experience in oversight.

• Ability to see/read information, monitor equipment, and support patient needs.
• Frequent verbal communication with patients, providers, and visitors; respond to emergencies.
• Manual dexterity for operating equipment and documenting patient care.
• Ability to lift and move patients and equipment; walking to transport supplies; occasional standing for extended periods.
• Ability to drive if required by role.

Intermountain Health St Vincent Regional Hospital, Billings, Montana

Scheduled weekly hours: 40. Hourly range: $50.97 - $78.69 (dependent on experience).
