American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU position requiring MICU and/or SICU experience with high-acuity trauma, neuro, and surgical patients at a Trauma Level I facility.
Details- Surgical ICU (SICU) unit within a Level I Trauma hospital
- Cares for complex, high-acuity medical, trauma, neuro, and surgical ICU patients
- Patient ratio of 1:2
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-7:30)
- Block scheduling considered for day/night shifts
- Floats primarily within the Critical Care Division, with potential floating to other units as census needs dictate
- Weekend requirements vary based on unit needs
- Cerner charting system experience preferred
- Active RN license (MT or Compact) currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required; PALS preferred
- Minimum 1+ year of experience in MICU and/or SICU specialty required
- Float pool-only ICU experience does not meet position requirements
- Trauma Level I experience required;
Trauma Level II experience preferred - Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Previous charge experience preferred
- Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, central and PICC line care, blood product administration, and TPN/lipids
- Experience with ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and care of ventilated patients
- Experience managing patients with CVVHD/CRRT, AKI, and renal failure
- Experience with EVD, ICP monitoring, and post-neurosurgical/craniotomy care preferred
- Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
- References required for consideration
- Provide independent, competent nursing care for high-acuity trauma, neuro, and surgical ICU patients
- Perform advanced procedures including massive transfusion protocol, chest tube assistance, and IABP management
- Manage patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure and complex cardiac, respiratory, and neurological conditions
- Administer continuous IV sedation, paralytics, and emergency medications as needed
- Support infection prevention and isolation precaution protocols
- Candidates must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility to qualify for travel rate; local candidates not accepted
- Previous permanent employees must have a 2-year break in service before reapplying
- License or background check hits considered on a case-by-case basis
- Floating to affiliate hospitals not expected unless otherwise agreed upon during interview or offer
- Not suited for novice or entry-level RNs
