Mill Lab Technician – Billings, MT
The main purpose and function of the Mill Lab Technician position is to ensure products comply with all company and customer specifications. The Mill Lab Technician is also responsible for ensuring that lab test procedures are consistently followed, and results are accurately calculated and neatly recorded.
Specific responsibilities may include:- Sample and test raw, processed, and finished materials.
- Monitor production processes for adherence to Quality Assurance Policies.
- Record and post accurate data on spreadsheets and/or databases.
- Communicate test information to supervisor and crew members.
- Monitor raw material and chemical feeders for correct addition rates.
- Work under close supervision and/or standard operating procedures, including strict safety rules and quality specifications.
- Make recommendations to supervisory personnel and advise Quality Assurance Manager.
- Authority to initiate a stop to production based on product nonconformances.
- Achieve specific goals established during the annual performance evaluation.
- Ensure appropriate consideration is given to safety, quality, and environmental concerns.
- Interact with other production crew members.
- Responsible for reporting safety, quality, environmental, and equipment concerns to supervisor.
- Participate in the Quality Management System by complying with the Quality Policy, Procedures, and Continual Improvement Process to reach the organization’s Quality goals and objectives.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Will train on-site.
- Six (6) months to one (1) year experience in chemical or other test laboratory preferred.
- Experience working in an ISO environment a plus.
- Problem solving skills: ability to identify source of problem and execute solution, document the issues, and escalate to management.
- Basic math skills.
- Laboratory procedures.
- Record keeping.
- Basic computer skills.
- Peer-to-peer, employee-to-supervisor, and interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal).

- Subject to dust, noise, fragrances, and temperature variations.
- Sitting, bending, standing, walking, 8-12 hours per day.
- Frequent exposure to moving machinery and mobile equipment.
- Frequently lifts up to 50 lbs.
- Must comply with any safety or PPE requirements.
- Ability to work a flexible/schedule/any shifts as needed.
- Approach all interactions and work situations in a positive and respectful manner.
- Attention to detail.
- Produce error‑free work.
- Deadline‑oriented.
- Ensure that customers’ requests come first.
- Self‑starter who thinks of innovative, faster ways to accomplish tasks.
- Work with minimal supervision.
