Position Overview
The mission of the MSU Billings Police Department is to support MSU Billings by partnering with the university community and external stakeholders to cultivate a safe and secure academic environment that enriches the quality of life of all MSU Billings students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The University Police Department is a State of Montana accredited law enforcement agency. In addition, the University Police Department serves as the fire and public safety office for the university.

Patrol Officers serve as members of the departments' patrol operations team. Patrol Officers shall follow directives put forth by department leadership and university management, taking personal ownership for the success of the department and university.
Patrol Officers ensure the goals of the department are achieved. This is accomplished through performing a broad range of law enforcement, security, and safety duties and assignments on university property and the surrounding areas.
Patrol Officers are responsible for maintaining public order and protecting lives and property.
Patrol Officers perform building safety and security, fire code inspections, fire extinguishers and AED inspections, and enforce all Montana state and local criminal/traffic laws. Patrol Officers are responsible for enforcing parking rules and regulations, issuing citations to violators.
Patrol Officers are required to work 24 hours/7 days per week. Patrol Officers work a variety of shifts, to include days, afternoons, nights, weekends, and holidays with regularity. Patrol Officers are required to work overtime.
Patrol Officers are required to perform all duties and responsibilities in a professional and service-oriented manner.
Patrol Officers will be required to perform all duties, as outlined in the officer job description.

Duties and Responsibilities

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

University Law Enforcement
Conduct criminal and non-criminal investigations.
Conduct traffic accident investigations.
Conduct traffic enforcement.
Conduct DUI detection and enforcement. (investigations)
Interview victims, suspects, and witnesses.
Apprehend suspects, offenders, and individuals with warrants.
Issue citations, Notice to Appears, and No Trespass Notices to suspects and violators.
Preserve crime scenes, photographic documentation, collection, and preservation of evidence.
Enforce University policies and procedures.
Deliver crime prevention and personal safety education presentations.
Mediate disputes.
Maintain public order, protect lives and property.
Respond to criminal behavior and calls in a timely, efficient, and professional manner.
Enforcement of Federal, State and Local laws along with university policies.
Provide for the safe and convenient flow of pedestrians and motor vehicle traffic in and around our university community.
Prepare written reports and other documentation as required.
Present evidence and provide oral testimony in legal proceedings.
Enforce university parking rules/regulations. Issue University parking warnings and citations in accordance with policies and procedures.
Provide law enforcement assistance to other agencies.
Coordinating with Billings Police, Billings Fire, and AMR during emergencies.
Assist with maintenance and upkeep of UPD equipment.
Perform other law enforcement duties as assigned.
