Job Description
The Security Officer provides a safe environment for patients, visitors, employees, and volunteers in an office or ambulatory clinic setting. This position is responsible for monitoring visitor and patient activity, safeguarding the premises, enforcing policies, providing assistance and direction, responding to emergencies, and protecting employees, patients, and Intermountain property.

- Operate and monitor security technology systems, including surveillance cameras, access control systems, and alarm systems, ensuring proper functioning and maintenance.
- Use verbal and non‑verbal strategies to de‑escalate situations and resolve conflicts peacefully, minimizing the need for physical force.
- Intervene to protect everyone’s safety when patients act aggressively or violently, using physical restraints when necessary.
- Ensure regulatory compliance, such as HIPAA, when reporting crimes or incidents, disclosing only the minimum necessary information to law enforcement.
- Respond to bomb threats and suspicious packages, following protocols to ensure facility safety.
- Participate in drills such as infant abduction and active shooter scenarios to prepare staff for real‑life situations.
- Conduct respectful and safe searches of patients and searching for narcotics, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
- Conduct safety inspections of walking surfaces, fire extinguishers, and overall facility safety to mitigate risks.
- Enforce parking regulations to ensure safety and accessibility, enhancing the patient experience.

- Current Driver’s License (if applicable).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- At least 21 years of age.
- If located in Montana, Security Guard Licensure required within 120 days of hire.
- One‑year previous experience in law enforcement, corrections, public safety, military police, or security.
- Must be able to see, read, and identify information, labels, documents, and equipment.
- Must communicate verbally and understand spoken information quickly and accurately.
- Must have manual dexterity to manipulate complex supplies and equipment, including frequent computer use.
- Must possess verbal and written communication skills for reporting.
- Must have analytical and observational ability to recognize suspicious behavior and safety hazards.
- Must communicate effectively within a fast‑paced, multi‑functional team.
St Vincent Regional Hospital, Billings, Montana. Scheduled weekly hours: 40. Hourly rate ranges from $19.95 to $26.38 depending on experience.
