Overview
The City of Billings is seeking a Lead Facilities Maintenance Mechanic to work at the airport. The role involves working independently on complex repairs or equipment replacement activities and performing a combination of lead worker duties.
Salary and ScheduleSalary Range: $30.0593 - $33.1523 per hour. Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 3 of a 7-step pay scale. The salary will be dependent on the applicant's education, experience, and training.
Work Schedule:
Full time. Schedule varies based on operational needs. Position includes participation in an on-call rotation.
- Leads, plans, and reviews the work of staff responsible for providing skilled building maintenance services including carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and mechanical repair work.
- Trains assigned employees in the areas of work methods, techniques, and the use and operation of equipment.
- Verifies work of assigned employees for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
- Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
- Supervises the use of and operates a variety of building maintenance tools and equipment.
- Estimates time, materials, and equipment required for jobs assigned.
- Requisition s materials as required.
- Replaces motors, pumps, belts, filters and other HVAC equipment.
- Operates and troubleshoots computer/electronic building control systems equipment and adjusts, reprograms or repairs controls as needed.
- Determines when a problem requires the use of outside vendors or other skilled trades, such as electricians or plumbers.
- Repairs or replaces water heaters, sinks, toilets or other plumbing fixtures.
- Replaces lubricants in pumps and motors and may add refrigerant fluid to compressors.
- Replaces lights, light fixtures, heating elements, switches and other basic electrical items not requiring an electrician or assists electricians with repairs.
- Installs, adjusts, repairs, and inspects heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment including forced air furnaces, boilers, water pumps, chillers, air conditioning units, exhaust fans, air filters, compressors, cooling towers, and heat exchangers.
- Maintains preventative maintenance records and logs.
- Maintains and repairs City facilities, equipment, and buildings by performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, and mechanical repair work.
- Operates, maintains, and repairs a variety of mechanical tools and equipment such as power saws, power sanders, drills, air compressors, paint sprayers, sewer augers, and various hand tools required for carpentry, plumbing, and maintenance skills.
- Reads and interprets schematics, diagrams, and blueprints.
- Performs journey level carpentry work including the construction, installation, remodeling and repairing of cabinets, partitions, walls, windows, doors, roofs, foundations.
- Maintains and repairs City facilities, equipment, and buildings by performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, and mechanical repair work.
- Observes people or conditions that may present a threat to safety and security and reports them to the proper authorities.
- Responds to tenant and public inquiries in a courteous manner and provides information within the area of assignment.
- Resolves complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
- Assists in security measures and participates in Airport emergency plans; performs security sweeps and reports violations of airport security measures.
- Locks and secures building at night; helps during emergency events and training.
- Performs journey level carpentry work including construction, installation, remodeling and repairing of cabinets, partitions, walls, windows, doors, roofs, foundations.
- Reads and interprets schematics, diagrams, and blueprints.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year of specialized training in building trades.
- One (1) year experience supervising or leading others.
- Boiler's operator license or one must be obtained within one (1) year from the date of employment or promotion.
- Must have strong communication skills and the ability to interact with vendors, staff, and the public.
- Must have a Montana driver's license or one must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and a federal fingerprint based criminal history check.
- Minimum of four (4) years of related experience.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience or formal training on personal computers with Microsoft applications and operating an automated Building Management System.
