Electrical Apprentice

This role provides hands-on training and experience in the electrical trade, with a strong focus on solar installations. You will support journeyman electricians with day-to-day tasks, including running conduit and wiring, installing and securing solar modules, and assisting with material handling in a high-volume construction environment. This position is ideal for individuals who want to develop their electrical skills while working outdoors on large-scale projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist journeyman electricians with daily electrical tasks under direct supervision.
  • Run conduit for electrical systems and solar installations according to plans and instructions.
  • Pull and route electrical wiring safely and efficiently for solar panel systems.
  • Connect micro-inverters or optimizers under supervision, ensuring proper installation and safety compliance.
  • Run different sets of wires for solar panels following blueprints and layout specifications.
  • Support module installation teams by unloading trucks and placing solar modules in designated laydown areas.
  • Assist equipment operators in moving solar modules from the laydown yard to workstations.
  • Lift and carry modules weighing approximately 25–30 pounds repeatedly during installation.
  • Carry old modules and cables to dumpsters and designated disposal areas in a safe and organized manner.
  • Place bolts, screws, and other fasteners into appropriate locations to secure modules to racking systems.
  • Use power drills and hand tools to install and secure all solar modules on racks.
  • Work at a consistent and fast pace to meet daily production goals and project schedules.
  • Follow construction plans and blueprints to ensure accurate placement and installation of equipment and modules.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper handling and storage of tools and materials.
  • Comply with all site safety procedures and guidelines while working in an active construction environment.
  • Adapt to working on uneven ground and in varying outdoor conditions throughout the workday.

Essential

Skills:

  • Foundational electrical knowledge and hands-on experience in electrical work.
  • Ability to assist with electrical troubleshooting under supervision.
  • Experience with conduit installation and routing.
  • Experience with electrical wiring in a construction or installation setting.
  • Ability to read and follow basic blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Comfort working in a construction environment, including non-residential job sites.
  • Ability to lift 30+ pounds repeatedly throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace and meet daily production and installation goals.
  • Physical ability to walk and work on uneven ground for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying and extreme temperature conditions.
  • Reliability and commitment to working extended hours, including mandatory overtime.
  • Strong attention to safety and adherence to electrical and construction safety practices.

Additional Skills &

Qualifications:

  • Completion of 576 hours of approved classroom instruction covering the National Electrical Code.
  • Completion of 8,000 hours of on-the-job training in an electrical apprenticeship program.
  • Electrician registration with the state of Montana.
  • Experience with solar module installation, racking, and related hardware is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with construction labor tasks such as unloading materials, moving equipment, and site cleanup.
  • Experience working with hand tools and power tools, including drills and related equipment.
  • Experience in outdoor or field-based work environments is an advantage.
