Job Title

New Day, Inc. is seeking full‑time or part‑time overnight shift Youth Empowerment Specialists and also hiring day and evening part‑time weekend positions!

This is a rewarding position helping youth in need with the potential for continual career advancement in a fast‑growing community‑based health care youth facility.

The Youth Empowerment Specialist works directly with youth ages 10-17 in a therapeutic group home setting.

Responsibilities
  • Perform basic youth care procedures and related task‑oriented activities.
  • Assist youth with activities of daily living and engage in 1:1 interaction.
  • Assist with admitting, discharging, and transferring of youth.
  • Provide direct youth care assigned by the Program Manager.
  • Work effectively with program manager in mental health and/or medical emergency situations within the limitations of your education, training, and job experience.
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining a neat, safe, and clean environment.
  • Observe, record, and report to Program Manager significant behavior and condition of youth seeking assistance when needed.
  • Understand, abide, and comply with all program policies and procedures.
  • Interact therapeutically with youth in both individual and group situations, applying appropriate positive and/or negative alliance.
  • Monitor and supervise youth behavior in individual and group situations.
  • Maintain effective communication regarding management and clinical issues to the appropriate individual in accordance with the established organizational structure.
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance record, report on time for scheduled shifts and meetings.

    Maintain professional appearance; be neat and clean.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with all safety standards.
  • Ensure medications are administered at scheduled time and in the correct dosage; keep medications in a locked cabinet and correctly marked.
  • Ensure medication management is correct and documented; report significant information to the Program Manager.
  • Write correct and detailed Description Assessment Plan (DAP) notes in the client’s chart at the end of every shift; complete Incident Reports, Communication Log entries, Day Treatment‑Group Home Log entries, Census Sheets, and Night Shift Duties sheets as required.
  • Complete other duties assigned by Supervisor or New Day, Inc. administration.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not supervise other staff members, but is responsible for youth and youth activities.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must pass a criminal and child protective screening background check upon hire.

Education and/Or Experience

A bachelor’s degree in the human services field and a minimum of 6 months previous experience working in a therapeutic group home preferred. Will consider others with a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent with two years’ experience working with seriously emotionally disturbed and/or chemical dependency treatment; or equivalent combination of appropriate education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents; respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints; write reports and correspondence; present information and respond to questions from individuals and groups.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percent; draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Skills

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions using critical thinking skills; know when to report to supervisor on critical issues or concerns.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

Must maintain current certifications in Non‑violent crisis intervention, CPR, and First Aid; must have a valid Montana driver’s license with an insurable driving record; comply with the Immigration Control and Reform Act by filing an I‑9 form. Classes for certifications are provided by New Day, Inc.
