Position Summary

As a Direct Care Counselor, you’ll work directly with shelter guests, maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive environment. You ll play a vital role in helping guests navigate daily challenges and take steps toward stability, recovery, and spiritual growth.

Key Responsibilities

Shelter Operations & Guest Support

  • Welcome new guests and complete the intake process
  • Explain house rules and assign sleeping accommodations
  • Conduct urinalysis and breathalyzer testing as needed
  • Perform daily room and bed checks
  • Supervise guest activities and enforce shelter guidelines
  • Answer phones, log donations, and respond to inquiries professionally

Crisis Management & Conflict Resolution

  • Monitor behavior and intervene before issues escalate
  • Respond to conflicts and emergencies with appropriate actions
  • Maintain a safe and peaceful shelter environment

Spiritual & Emotional Support

  • Offer prayer and encouragement to guests upon request
  • Promote a culture of dignity, respect, and spiritual growth
Qualifications Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field preferred
  • 1+ years of experience in social services, recovery support, or related roles required
  • Strong background in crisis intervention, addiction recovery, or mental health support
Additional Requirements
  • Valid Montana driver’s license and insurable driving record
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
