Location: Montana Rescue Mission – Billings, MT
ScheduleSchedule: Full-Time | Day, Evening, Weekend & Holiday Shifts (As Needed)

Position SummaryAs a Direct Care Counselor, you’ll work directly with shelter guests, maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive environment. You ll play a vital role in helping guests navigate daily challenges and take steps toward stability, recovery, and spiritual growth.
Key ResponsibilitiesShelter Operations & Guest Support
- Welcome new guests and complete the intake process
- Explain house rules and assign sleeping accommodations
- Conduct urinalysis and breathalyzer testing as needed
- Perform daily room and bed checks
- Supervise guest activities and enforce shelter guidelines
- Answer phones, log donations, and respond to inquiries professionally
Crisis Management & Conflict Resolution
- Monitor behavior and intervene before issues escalate
- Respond to conflicts and emergencies with appropriate actions
- Maintain a safe and peaceful shelter environment
Spiritual & Emotional Support
- Offer prayer and encouragement to guests upon request
- Promote a culture of dignity, respect, and spiritual growth
- Bachelor’s degree in human services or a related field preferred
- 1+ years of experience in social services, recovery support, or related roles required
- Strong background in crisis intervention, addiction recovery, or mental health support
- Valid Montana driver’s license and insurable driving record
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
