About the Position

The Non-State Service (NS-14) Accounting Team Lead will be in the Public Safety Planning (PSP) Division located in PEARL, MS, RANKIN COUNTY. The incumbent provides technical guidance and oversight to assigned accounting staff and performs advanced-level accounting duties to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and policies. The position supports accurate grant accounting, GAAP-compliant financial reporting, and assists with the agency's annual audit.

of Work Performed
  • Serves as a lead worker by assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of accounting staff engaged in grant accounting and financial reporting activities.
  • Performs and reviews complex accounting transactions, reconciliations, and journal entries in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Prepares, reviews, and submits financial reports for federal, state, and other grant-funded programs to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Monitors grant expenditures to ensure allowability, accuracy, and compliance with approved budgets and funding requirements.
  • Assists with the preparation of GAAP-adjusted financial statements and related schedules.
  • Participates in and supports the agency's annual audit by preparing audit schedules, providing supporting documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of internal controls to safeguard agency assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Serves as a technical resource for grant accounting, financial reporting, GAAP compliance, and audit-related matters.
  • Coordinates with program staff, grants management personnel, and external entities to resolve accounting and reporting issues.
  • Assists with the development and monitoring of corrective action plans resulting from audit findings, as applicable.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and compliance within accounting operations.
  • Performs related or similar duties as assigned.
