The Mississippi State Department of Health’s mission is to protect and advance the health, well-being, and safety of everyone in Mississippi.

This is a time limited position. The Mississippi State Department of Health is seeking a Medical Cannabis Compliance Inspector I (Degree) to support the Mississippi Medical Cannabis Program. This position monitors regulatory compliance for licensed medical cannabis facilities and performs inspection and compliance activities within an assigned caseload. The position is assigned to Madison County and is a time-limited, non-state service position (NS-14).

Responsibilities
  • Reviewing records and documentation.
  • Conducting initial, quarterly, quality, and other required site visits.
  • Monitoring activity through applicable licensing and regulatory systems.
  • Following up on complaints.
  • Documenting findings and communications.
  • Providing program-related support to regulated facilities.
What You'll Need to Be Successful
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct objective inspections.
  • Review records and identify compliance concerns.
  • Document findings clearly and accurately.
  • Manage an assigned caseload.
  • Communicate professionally with regulated facilities and program staff.
  • Exercise sound judgment.
  • Maintain attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with electronic case-management, licensing, or regulatory tracking systems is beneficial.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 0–2 years of experience.
  • Agency preferred qualifications:
    Preference may be given to applicants with at least one year of experience in regulatory compliance, inspections, investigations, licensing, auditing, or another related compliance field.
  • Bachelor’s degrees in Criminal Justice, Public Health, Health Administration, Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Legal Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or another field related to regulatory compliance, investigations, health, science, or public administration may be particularly relevant to the work of the Mississippi Medical Cannabis Program.
  • Experience reviewing records, documenting findings, interpreting laws or regulations, conducting site visits, or working with regulated businesses or facilities is also preferred.
