Keesler Medical Center at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, is one of the largest and most comprehensive medical facilities in the U.S. Air Force. Operated by the 359th Medical Group, it delivers direct healthcare to tens of thousands of beneficiaries, active‑ duty members, and military retirees.

Responsibilities

The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) delivers comprehensive primary, preventative, and therapeutic health care services to assigned patients within a Military Treatment Facility (MTF) family practice clinic. Operating with clinical autonomy, the FNP manages acute and chronic conditions, performs specialized military readiness assessments, conduct minor procedures, and serves as a clinical consultant and educator.

1:
Clinical Practice & Assessment:
  • Diagnose and manage acute, chronic, and episodic illnesses across the lifespan.
  • Perform comprehensive physicals, well‑baby exams, and specialized military readiness assessments (PHAs, pre/post‑deployments, MEB summaries, and dependent clearances).
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests (labs, EKGs, X‑rays, CTs, MRIs) and request specialty consultations.
  • Formulate treatment plans, prescribe pharmacologic agents (including pain management), and document all care in electronic medical records IAW evidence‑based DoD/VA guidelines.
2:
Advanced Procedures & Care Management:
  • Perform minor clinical procedures (shave/punch/mole biopsies, minor suturing, joint aspirations, toenail removals, and IV placements)
  • Collaborate with consulting physicians to develop, evaluate, and revise facility healthcare policies and family nursing protocols.
  • Monitor and adjust treatment regimens for chronically ill patients, recognizing scope limitations and referring to specialty care when indicated.
3:
Clinical Consulting & Education :
  • Serve as a clinical consultant, instructor, and peer reviewer to improve care delivery.
  • Participate in staff development, quality assurance monitoring, and continuous peer evaluation.
4:
Professional Advocacy &

Collaboration:
  • Serve as the functional family health expert for the medical group.
  • Participate in committees and process improvement initiatives to optimize clinic operations.
