Personal Financial Counselor (Assignment Ready Counselor) – Grade 24
Responsibilities- Provide short‑term, surge, and on‑demand personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families at military installations.
- Offer one‑on‑one counseling, conduct briefings and presentations, and provide referral resources outside the counseling session.
- Consult with commanders, other providers, or staff to ensure program scope and meet installation needs.
- Assist service members in establishing a spending plan for extended absences.
- Develop and distribute informational financial materials to service members and families.
- Coordinate, publicize, and deliver a wide variety of Personal Financial Management classes/workshops covering topics across the military lifecycle (e.g., arrival at first duty station, pre‑ and post‑deployment, personal and career events).
- Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.
- Conduct virtual counseling and other electronic modes of communication (web‑based, secure online chat, video‑based communications) when authorized by the OSD FINRED Program office.
- Manage duty‑to‑warn situations in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD) protocol.
- Communicate with leadership and participate in regular supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on the installations.
- Participate in regular in‑services/training, quality improvement committees, or other contract activities as assigned.
- Perform any additional duties as required to support the program.
- Bachelor’s degree required (associate degree plus 4 years of experience or high school diploma plus 6 years of experience may be considered).
- Minimum 3 years of financial counseling experience.
- U.S. citizenship and fluent English required.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish may be required by contract.
- Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier2 investigation.
- Completion of the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
- Certification as an Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
Bachelor’s level education or equivalent combination of education and work experience (as outlined in qualifications).
Licenses and CertificationsRequired:
AFC, CFP, or ChFC.
Salary Range: $58,440 – $93,500 (may vary by location and based on experience).
