Instructional Support Associate (SL-2)

Salary: $51,261 - $61,261

The Support Associate for Access Services is responsible for contributing to the successful delivery of library services, such as, but not limited to, technology checkout, course reserves, reservable rooms, and shelving/paging of materials. The Associate may serve formally as student supervisors, but more likely serves as a resource for student assistants, who provide supplemental support at service locations and complete departmental tasks.

This position is primarily located in Bartle Library with a primary daytime Monday–Friday schedule. The schedule may need to be occasionally flexed to assist with building opening, as well as during semester‑end Reading and Exam periods to ensure desk coverage during the Libraries' 24‑hour operations.

This position reports to the Director for Access Services.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contribute to a shared coverage model for all service points in the department, responding to in‑person inquiries, as well as phone, email, and Lib Answers tickets:
    • Provide direct customer service via directional assistance, making appropriate referrals, reporting facility concerns, facilitating lost and found items, and assisting with basic access to resources.
    • Provide direct circulation services, such as checking materials in/out, including course reserves and loanable technology. Circulation services also include assisting with reservations for publicly‑accessible rooms in Bartle Library.
  • Contribute to the successful daily shelving operations at Bartle Library:
    • Check in, scan, route, sort, and/or shelve returned library materials as needed.
    • Scan, sort, and shelve new library materials as they arrive from the Cataloging unit.
    • Coordinate with Staff Associate for Access Services to communicate and facilitate shelving updates and training to departmental staff and student colleagues.
  • Contribute to the overall collection management of print materials at Bartle Library:
    • Page print materials related to Course Reserves requests.
    • Conduct searches for loaned materials that have been claimed returned by patrons.
    • Routinely review lost item reports to ensure items are in the correct status.
  • Balance scheduled desk coverage shifts with off‑desk duties and responsibilities. Desk schedules/shifts are generated on a semester‑by‑semester basis but may change daily based on unexpected absence or tardiness. During periods of low activity at service points, the position is expected to prioritize and complete routine tasks that are compatible with providing service and support at the desk.
  • Provide facility support such as assisting with opening/closing procedures when needed, tidying spaces and shelves, reporting facility concerns, and facilitating lost and found items.
  • Serve as a resource for student assistants, who provide supplemental support at service locations and complete departmental tasks.
  • Participate in departmental projects, activities, and innovations.
  • Participate in a work culture that promotes diversity and anti‑racism and actively works to eliminate or mitigate the effect of systemic racism and bias.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Customer service experience
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace applications for communication and productivity
Preferred
  • Experience working in libraries
  • Understanding of the importance of confidentiality of library records
