Job Description:

The Binghamton University Music Department offers graduate and undergraduate degrees, including the Master of Music degree with emphasis in Collaborative Piano, Composition, Conducting, History & Literature, Instrumental Performance, and Vocal Performance; the Master of Music in Opera, the Bachelor of Music in Performance, and the Bachelor of Arts in Music. The department also serves students from all majors across the university as part of Harpur College of Arts and Sciences.

The Department of Music at Binghamton University (State University of New York) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Piano and Chamber Music to commence in the Fall 2026 semester. This dynamic and innovative artist will have or develop a national and international profile as a pianist, with substantial activity in collaborations with other musical artists. Through studio and classroom instruction, the successful candidate will perform duties that may include:

* Teaching graduate and undergraduate studio piano lessons

* Coaching chamber music and new music

* Offering electives reflective of the candidate's interests and specializations

* Working closely with faculty in other fields (e.g. composition, instrumental performance, and vocal performance) and coordinate piano-performance activities within the department

* Recruiting undergraduate and graduate student pianists

* Overseeing keyboard studies and chamber music across the department

* Serving on departmental and university committees.

The Music Department has a strong commitment to hearing and amplifying the voices of those who have been historically excluded in musical practices and pedagogy. Members of historically excluded groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

This position is part of a multi-year cluster hire within Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, "Arts, Practice, Performance, and Research in the 21st Century." This program aims to establish a network of artists and scholars who see their mission as foundational to an intellectually rigorous liberal arts education and who take an expansive approach to their creative activities, research programs, and pedagogy.

The program seeks artists and scholars who represent the front edge of thinking and engagement in their own disciplines, while also connecting to other knowledge domains and areas of praxis within the arts and other fields. This program forms part of an initiative, currently underway, to establish a school of the arts in Harpur College, thereby consolidating its reputation as a local and national center for creative production and scholarly investigation in the visual and performing arts.
