Job DescriptionBinghamton University's Decker College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Division of Physical Therapy, located at the newly renovated, state‑of‑the‑art Health Sciences campus in Johnson City, New York, is hiring for its Physical Therapy program and invites applicants for a full‑time, campus‑based, 10‑ or 12‑month open‑rank Tenured/Tenure‑Track faculty appointment.
The successful candidate will have a PhD or DSc in physical therapy, rehabilitation sciences, biomechanics or a related field and an active ongoing research agenda demonstrated by peer‑reviewed publications and successful intra‑ and extramural grant funding. The primary research focus will be on musculoskeletal and orthopedic domains, while embracing a movement‑systems perspective to complement existing research in the division. Experience working with musculoskeletal and orthopedic patient populations, excellent communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills, and eligibility for New York State physical therapy licensure are preferred.
Teaching experience in a physical therapy education program is also preferred.
The candidate will teach primarily in the musculoskeletal track of courses within the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. Additional teaching assignments will depend on content expertise and program needs. The candidate will also provide service at all levels of the University and within the profession and must be committed to student‑centered education and collaborative work within the Division, College, and University.
The existing Motion Analysis Research Lab (MARL) will provide space and technology for research on human gait, balance, biomechanics, and the application of interventions and assistive devices. MARL equipment includes a 12‑camera motion capture system, force plates, in‑sole pressure sensors, computerized dynamic posturography with immersive virtual reality, muscle dynamo meters, a portable instrumented walkway, 16‑sensor electromyography, and head‑mounted eye‑tracking systems. The lab offers immersive learning opportunities for faculty, clinicians, and students across health science and engineering programs.
The Division of Physical Therapy is also expanding its facilities, relocating MARL to a more accessible location on the Health Sciences Campus, and establishing a physical therapy clinic in Johnson City to provide services to the greater Binghamton community and to support educational and research participation.
