Job DescriptionThe Theatre Department at Binghamton University seeks a full time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Acting & Directing to begin in the Fall 2026 semester. The successful candidate will have significant experience teaching college-level acting and a professional background in acting and/or directing. Expertise in Black, Indigenous, Latinx, AAPI (Asian American/Pacific Islander) or MENA (Middle Eastern North African) theatre is desired.
Responsibilities- Teach all levels of acting classes and direct one mainstage production each year.
- Teach additional classes as appropriate to the candidate’s field of specialization.
- Direct additional performance specializations may be included (e.g., voice, dialects, physical theater, clown, stage combat, intimacy direction, or other specialties).
- Engage in research and/or creative activity in acting, directing, and/or performance pedagogy leading to tenure.
- Contribute to the program through administrative commitments, service on department and university committees, student mentorship and advising, and collaborative work with colleagues.
- Collaborate within the new School of the Arts and with colleagues across departments on initiatives inside and beyond the department.
Requirements:
- Terminal degree in relevant field (MFA or equivalent) by August 17, 2026
- At least two years of experience teaching various levels of acting at the university level
- Expertise in acting pedagogy at the university level
- Significant professional/educational directing experience
Preferred:
- Additional performance specializations and/or certifications
- Expertise in Black, Indigenous, Latinx, AAPI (Asian American/Pacific Islander) or MENA (Middle Eastern North African) or LGBTQ theater is desired
- Experience in teaching directing
