Location: City of Binghamton

Parent Educator – 2026–2027 School Year

The Binghamton City School District is seeking candidates to fill the anticipated Parent Educator position for the 2026–2027 school year. This is an non-representative position, 220 days per contract. Parent Educators follow the same calendar as teachers, with an additional 20 workdays between July 1st and the start of the school year.

Typical Work Activities

Employees are expected to work effectively together to meet the needs of the community, families, and the Binghamton School District. Employees are expected to lead by example and demonstrate the highest level of ethics, value working with families with the youngest children, respect cultural diversity, and develop positive and healthy relationships with families.

Special Requirement

Complete training for Parent and Family Safety (PATS) certification within 2 years of hire.

Who May Apply
  • Currently on the Civil Service eligible list for the title, or
  • Currently appointed to the title, or
  • Eligible to take the exam for the title when it becomes available.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a bachelor’s degree in sociology, human services, or behavioral science, or a closely related field; or
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an associate’s degree in the above and two years of experience in social work, childcare, mental health, early childhood education, or working with individuals having learning disabilities; or
  • Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalent diploma and six (6) years of experience listed in (b) above; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a), (b) and (c) above.

Note: 60 college credits in sociology, human services, or behavioral science or a closely related field is equivalent to an associate’s degree.
