Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)

Salary: $75,000

The Couper‑Owens Center for Community Schools (C‑O) at Binghamton University, housed within the College of Community and Public Affairs (CCPA), advances the University‑Assisted Community Schools (UACS) model in K‑12 schools across the local, regional, and national levels. Through strong university‑school partnerships, C‑O prepares the next generation of school‑based mental health professionals while expanding access to support for youth and families in high‑needs school communities.

The Assistant Clinical Director works closely with the School Mental Health Project Director to provide clinical supervision, training, and program coordination for UACS Social Work Fellows and Social Work Interns. They serve as the Field Instructor for UACS Social Work Interns, supporting integration of CSWE competencies and Binghamton University field education standards, and collaborate with site supervisors and school district personnel to strengthen program implementation and continuous quality improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Program Leadership & Service Implementation
    • Support implementation of the School Mental Health Project.
    • Monitor project timelines, service deliverables, and program milestones.
    • Assist in operational planning and problem‑solving to strengthen implementation and continuous quality improvement.
    • Collaborate with site supervisors to support strong program implementation and coordinated student support within partner schools.
  • Clinical Supervision & Field Instruction
    • Provide one hour of weekly individual clinical supervision to UACS Social Work Interns.
    • Guide interns in developing competencies aligned with the nine CSWE core competencies.
    • Support interns in identifying practice behaviors and learning opportunities within school settings.
    • Partner with site supervisors to ensure coordinated supervision and consistent expectations for interns.
    • Facilitate reflective practice connecting academic coursework to field experience and in‑service seminars.
    • Participate in liaison meetings with the field office, site supervisors, and interns.
    • Support interns in navigating challenges and developing supportive action plans when needed.
    • Complete field education documentation and evaluation processes in online data systems.
    • Monitor interns' field hours and approve time logs.
    • Foster interns' professional identity and interest in careers in school mental health.
  • Training & Professional Development
    • Assist in planning and facilitating orientation, Prep Academy, and monthly in‑service training.
    • Collaborate with the Project Director to develop training curriculum and annual training calendars.
    • Identify emerging training needs for interns and site supervisors.
    • Participate in structured professional learning communities and cross‑site consultation to continuously refine practice and strengthen program implementation.
    • Participate in professional development and build expertise in areas including, but not limited to
      • University‑Assisted Community Schools (UACS)
      • Family Engagement
      • Trauma‑Informed Practice
      • Suicide Prevention
      • Restorative Practices
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Social Work with a minimum of two years of post‑MSW practice experience.
  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW).
  • Experience supervising social work interns.
  • Experience working in or partnering with school communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CSWE competencies and social work field education standards.
  • Access to reliable transportation and a valid driver's license to operate a vehicle in NYS.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
  • Experience providing clinical supervision.
  • Experience working in school‑based mental health or community school.
  • Experience developing or facilitating professional training.
  • Knowledge of school‑based mental health and community school approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary school teams.
  • Experience implementing MTSS or school‑wide mental health initiatives.
