Title:

Staff Associate (SL-4)

The Community Liaison for the Department of Human Development (HDEV) at Binghamton University will take primary responsibility for supporting Human Development courses with a community-engaged learning component, particularly the undergraduate capstone practicum, HDEV 475:
Practicum in Human Development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Field Site Development
    • Support the field education component of all Human Development courses with a service-learning component to facilitate field education alignment with class objectives and Human Development learning goals.
    • Field Site Coordinator:
      Work with the Human Development Chair to assess and select practicum sites; promote and maintain collaborative partnerships between field education sites and the BU Department of Human Development; facilitate and help to procure Memoranda of Understanding for sites as needed.
    • Maintain a directory of field education sites including appropriate site contact person/supervisor; application, screening, and training requirements; and BU/Agency legal agreements, such as Memoranda of Understanding, governing student field education.
    • Attend and make students aware of relevant campus events focused on internships and/or career opportunities, e.g., CCE Community Opportunity Fair and CCPA community connections.
    • Organize annual community partners breakfast/student internship interviewing opportunity in the Fall semester.
  • HDEV
    475 Practicum Community Based Experience Process & Evaluations
    • Work with the department chair and HDEV faculty to coordinate course evaluation for the assessment process.
    • Meet with students participating in field placements and their site supervisors, as appropriate, to address challenges and successes, discuss areas of growth, and to ensure that their experience supports the learning objectives of the course.
    • Determine eligibility requirements and the application process for the HDEV
      475 practicum using guidelines as a template.
    • For the HDEV
      475 undergraduate practicum, review all practicum proposals to ensure they satisfy the requirements in the practicum guidelines, approve satisfactory proposal submissions, and forward them to the HDEV academic advisor for final approval and course registration. Assist students needing to (re) align their proposals with department guidelines to ensure acceptance.
    • Conduct orientation sessions for human development students eligible to enroll in the HDEV
