The History Department at Binghamton University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of African History. While the period and regional specialization area are open, the department will prioritize applications from scholars working on Western, Central, Northeastern, or Southern Africa. We are especially interested in historians whose research profiles complement our existing course offerings and resonate with departmental strengths including histories of medicine, health, and environment;
gender history; transregional history; and the history of borderlands.
The hire would teach a range of courses including survey courses on the history of Africa, upper-level and graduate courses in the area of specialty, and, as appropriate, participate in the rotation of colleagues teaching our global history sequence. This position will be housed in the History Department, and the candidate will have the opportunity to work with colleagues in other departments and programs on campus, such as Africana Studies, Anthropology, and Global Public Health.
A Ph.D. degree in History, or a related field, must be in hand by August 23, 2027.
The State University of New York is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer, and in keeping with this commitment, we welcome all to apply, including veterans and persons with disabilities.
Please be advised that H1B visa sponsorship may not be available for this position.
