The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Binghamton University invites applications for a tenure‑track position at the rank of assistant professor, beginning in Fall 2027. Priority will be given to candidates in Algebra, broadly defined, including but not limited to:

• algebraic number theory
• algebraic geometry
• arithmetic geometry
• commutative algebra
• (geometric and modular) representation theory
• algebraic K‑theory
• Lie algebras

The successful candidate must have a strong record of research and teaching, and would complement and/or strengthen our existing research groups. Current research areas in the department include:

• algebra
• analysis
• applied and computational mathematics
• combinatorics
• geometry/topology
• probability
• statistics

Binghamton University is a highly ranked R1 public institution engaged in outstanding research and education. Opportunities for collaborative research are provided through various research groups, including the Organized Research Centers.

• PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in mathematical sciences or a closely related field by August 16, 2027

• Research focuses on algebra, broadly defined
• Experience teaching mathematics in a higher education institution
