Kids Club Teaching Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Teacher for our Discovery Center Club Program is a teaching position responsible for providing safe, engaging, and enriching instruction in our classrooms. The position requires a passion for making a difference in the lives of children and building learning experiences that are hands‑on and engaging.

The Assistant Teacher is expected to:

• Assist the Lead teacher to prepare and deliver quality instruction and programming based on play‑based learning theory.
• Supervise, engage, and support children.
• Communicate with parents regarding children’s experiences and provide follow‑up activities for use at home.
• Maintain OFCS licensing standards and rules.
• Support the Education Director and staff to improve health, safety, and happiness of children.

• High School Diploma or its equivalent AND two years direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age.

• Course work in an education field.
• Experience in working with children.

• Must be creative.
• Must have the ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
• Must possess strong problem‑solving skills and communication skills.
• Must be able to relate with children, staff, and parents.

• Compensation: $16.00/hour
• Schedule:
  • Monday–Friday, Hours vary (Kids Club is open 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM Monday through Friday).
  • If schools are closed, Kids Club may be offered for a full day.
• 10‑month position.
• Additional hours may be available.
• Daily on‑site required.
• This position is nonexempt.

• Reports to the Director of Education of the Discovery Center of the Southern Tier.
