Senior Principal Project Engineer – Execution Lead (Onsite)

Collins Aerospace, a division of RTX, is seeking a Senior Principal Project Engineer to lead the technical and project management of simulation solutions for U.S. Department of Defense training systems.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the single point of contact for engineering on a development project, coordinating with Project Management (LCVSM), Operations, Configuration Management (CM), Security, Design Quality, and other technical functions within an assigned program.
  • Lead a multi‑disciplinary engineering team covering systems, software, electrical, mechanical, and quality disciplines.
  • Act as the primary customer‑technical interface for the program.
  • Guide engineering development in accordance with the RTX Lifecycle Management System (RLPM), Engineering Process, requirements, schedule, and budget.
  • Develop and monitor project plans, schedules, and budgets for small to mid‑size projects, adjusting as necessary to stay on target.
  • Work with group managers to ensure appropriate staffing and resolve resource issues, escalating to department management if required.
  • Support technical risk and opportunity mitigation activities.
  • Pursue cost‑saving and risk‑mitigation opportunities to maximize project profitability.
  • Record and document changes in scope, schedule, or other incidents that impact the project.
  • Conduct meetings, consolidate, and present plans and progress reports related to business aspects of the project(s).
  • Identify and react to project problems, recommending solutions such as reallocating resources or changing contractual specifications.
  • Lead engineering bid and proposal efforts for existing and new customer opportunities.
  • Provide input to Gate Review, Project Management Review, and Estimated at Completion (EAC) reviews.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 7 years of experience.
  • Active and transferable U.S. Government DoD Top Secret Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain one prior to the start date.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Strong technical, leadership and organizational skills with demonstrated project leadership/management experience.
  • Capacity to spend a significant portion of time in a direct technical role leading the current Increment execution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interface with Executive Leadership, Program Managers, and Operations Managers across all business areas.
  • Proficiency in developing small to mid‑size product plans and budgets, performing critical analysis, and pursuing cost‑saving opportunities.
  • Experience in identifying and addressing project problems and recommending solutions.
  • Candidate must be capable of creating and leveraging powerful networks to achieve objectives.
  • Experience with cost accounting management preferred (CAM).
  • Familiarity with Earned Value analysis is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Well‑organized and able to communicate effectively with engineering teams, leadership, and customers.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering processes and requirements and design capture tools including ALM, JIRA, and Subversion.
  • Software / Systems development experience.
  • Experience supporting pursuit activities, including bids and proposals.
  • Experience in simulation of avionics systems development, verification/validation, and interfaces.
