Position Overview :

The Survey Party Chief will perform field surveys throughout New York. The Party Chief will work solo and/or with another survey person.

Experience with Total Stations, Leica GPS equipment, and data collection software is required, along with downloading/uploading files in accordance with company procedures. Knowledge and ability to collect data in a manner acceptable for field to finish procedures is desired. The Party Chief will also perform in office duties related to CAD mapping with Micro Station and AutoCAD, deed research, and deed plots.

Successful candidate must have valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be physically capable and willing to perform full day outdoor work.

Key Responsibilities :
  • Run and supervise a one or two-man field crew.
  • Prepare field notes, sketches and photos.
  • Collect data for topographic, utility, structural monitoring, boundary, wetlands, other types of surveys.
  • Perform construction layout.
  • Utilize robotic total stations, optical/digital levels, and GPS.
  • Perform daily downloads of data collector files.
  • Adhere to company protocols for maintenance and upkeep of survey equipment and vehicles.
  • Interface with clients in the field and report project status to the assigned project manager.
  • Perform deed research and deed plots.
As a Survey Party Chief assigned to a field position you will be expected to perform work year-round, in varying weather conditions that may be wet, cold or hot. You will have to carry equipment and lift heavy objects. You may be required to work nights and weekends.

Qualifications & Requirements :
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as Party Chief on a field survey crew, doing property line, boundary, topographic, ALTA surveys, and construction layout.
  • Two-year Associates Degree.
  • Experience with Leica robotic total stations and GPS.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Leica data collection software, Micro Station, and Auto CAD software.
  • Ability to react positively to difficult project assignments and/or clients.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently yet follow defined procedures.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record.
  • Must be willing to travel.
