Apply on the New York portal→Applications go through the state’s official system — Civic Works only tracks the posting.## Summary The New York Department of Transportation seeks Engineer Trainees and Assistant Engineers (Civil/Transportation) for the Binghamton office. Incumbents will work under licensed professional engineers on design and construction projects involving highways, bridges, and transportation infrastructure, with duties ranging from preparing CAD plans and conducting inspections to serving as chief inspector on construction projects.
The role is part of the NY HELPS program and includes a 24-month traineeship leading to advancement to Assistant Engineer upon passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.### Key qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related engineering discipline
* Proof of passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam (required for Assistant Engineer; Engineer Trainee can have either FE or one year of qualifying engineering experience)
* One year of full-time engineering experience with transportation projects (highways, bridges, railroads, or similar)
* Current authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis
* Willingness to occasionally travel to support department operations and emergency response efforts
