Role DescriptionThe Director of Finance internship role at Binghamton University is an on-site position located in Vestal, NY. The intern will assist in preparing and analyzing financial reports, supporting budget development, and monitoring financial performance across designated departments or projects. Day-to-day responsibilities may include reviewing financial statements, helping maintain accurate financial records, participating in forecasting and financial planning activities, and contributing to periodic financial reviews and presentations.
The intern will collaborate with finance staff to ensure compliance with university policies and applicable regulations, identify opportunities for process improvement, and support data-driven decision-making. This is an internship role that provides hands‑on experience in higher education finance within a dynamic, research‑driven academic environment.
- Strong foundation in Finance, with the ability to apply financial concepts in an institutional setting.
- Skills in Financial Planning and forecasting to support budgeting and long-term financial decision-making.
- Experience working with Financial Statements and Financial Reporting to ensure accuracy and clarity of financial data.
- Analytical Skills to interpret financial information, identify trends, and support recommendations.
- Proficiency with spreadsheet and financial software (e.g., Excel, financial management tools) and ability to learn university systems.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present financial information to non‑financial stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a bachelor’s or master’s program in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field.
- Interest in higher education administration or nonprofit finance; prior internship or project experience in finance is beneficial.
