Location: City of Binghamton

Location: Binghamton, NY (must reside within approx. 30 minutes of UHS Wilson Medical Center)

Pay: $90,000.00 – $ per year

Job Description

The Center for Donation & Transplant (CDT) is a tier 1 organ procurement organization serving over 40 hospitals in Upstate New York, Western Vermont and Massachusetts to facilitate donation and educate communities on the gift of life. More information about CDT can be found nyvt.org.

CDT is recruiting for a Donation Specialist / In-house Coordinator to serve the southern tier region of NY, primarily UHS Wilson Medical Center and UHS affiliates, in addition to Lourdes, Bassett Cooperstown, and Garnet Health Harris Campus when indicated. The Specialist will partner with another Specialist in the region to form a team that meets area needs, being responsible for hospital development as well as on-call donor referral response and family service duties (see below).

Ideal candidates will reside near the Binghamton, NY area so that they may work in both a remote and on-site capacity at assigned hospitals. Use of personal vehicles is required and reimbursed at the federal mileage rate. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in the donation field or the critical care setting (ex: nursing, paramedic, RRT, social work, grief counseling). Employer sponsored relocation may be available for exceptional candidates with previous experience in the organ procurement industry

Schedule

Donation Specialists will collaborate each month to maximize daytime and on-call coverage throughout each month, splitting on-call equitably. General expectations for each Specialist include:

  • Maintain availability during regular business hours
    , 8AM – 4 PM Mon – Fri
  • Provide on-call support approximately 15 days per month during evenings/weekends.
On-call Roles
  • Referral response – respond to organ donation referrals via phone/EMR and/or onsite rounding.
  • Evaluation – collect and communicate clinical information to CDT’s Administrator On Call to assess clinical potential for organ donation
  • Authorization – Meet with potential donor families to advocate for donation utilizing dual advocacy principles.
  • Family support – provide social/emotional support to donor families throughout the donation process.
  • Clinical team support – assist clinical colleagues in efforts (facilitating testing, overcoming challenges) to move donation forward and maximize outcomes.
Hospital Development / Communications Roles
  • Manage relationships with partner hospitals to increase donor referrals, process compliance, and hospital satisfaction
  • Provide hospital education on the donation process to varying staff (RN’s, MD’s, RT’s, Social Work, OR staff, etc)
  • Provide community education to local stakeholders (Schools, DMV, etc) to spread awareness of donation
  • Perform routine audits to assess hospital compliance with federal donation regulations. Manage project plans with assigned hospitals to maximize readiness and support for donation.
Compensation Model

Total compensation will range from $90,000 – $130,000+ dependent on overtime and on-call. Compensation is comprised of the following:

  • Salary – a base salary is paid regardless of activity. Base salary will be a minimum of $75,750, with higher amounts possible dependent on candidate qualifications/experience.
  • On-call – paid in addition to salary at $3.25 per hour for each hour on-call outside business hours. Weekday on-call would be $3.25 p/hr x 16 hours = $52. Weekend on-call rate would be $3.25 p/hr x 24 hours = $78. If covering 2 weekends and 13 weekdays of on-call per month, on-call would amount to $988 per month, or $11,856 per year.
  • Supplemental/overtime hours – paid in addition to salary and on-call for working over 40 hours. Supplemental hours are paid at 1.5x the regular hourly rate. Supplemental pay for this position is estimated to range between $10,+ per year.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required in nursing, healthcare administration, social work, public health or another related field.
  • At least 1 year of OPO experience in hospital development, clinical or family services,
    or
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a critical care environment (RN, paramedic, RRT, social worker, etc)
  • Demonstrated understanding of hospital operations and proven ability to effectively communicate with healthcare professionals.
  • High comfort level within the ICU setting
    , able to understand critical concepts related to medicine, care delivery and family support.
