Overview
Position Overview The Inpatient Coder Level 3 is a senior-level position responsible for coding high-complexity inpatient records with accuracy and efficiency. This role requires expert-level knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems, MS-DRG and APR-DRG assignment, and comprehensive understanding of clinical documentation. The Level 3 coder ensures coding compliance, supports training and mentoring of junior staff, and contributes to audit and quality improvement efforts within the HIM department.

Compensation Range $33.63 - $50.45 per hour, depending on experience
You will be eligible for benefits if you are hired into a regular position with at least 24 scheduled weekly hours.
Key Responsibilities- Demonstrate proficient understanding of complex clinical scenarios, including comorbidities and complications.
- Analyze detailed clinical documentation to identify relevant clinical indicators ensuring coding accuracy.
- Perform and respond to physician documentation queries in a timely and professional manner.
- Apply advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems.
- Participate in quality assurance activities and perform basic auditing to maintain compliance.
- Exhibit strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills in coding and documentation review.
- Communicate effectively with physicians and healthcare teams to clarify documentation.
- Work independently while meeting and maintaining established productivity and accuracy standards.
- Assist in mentoring Level I coders or onboarding new team members as needed.
Required:
- Associates degree in HIT or related field
- 5+ years of inpatient coding experience
- CIC Certification
- Bachelor's degree in HIT or related field
