The YMCA of Broome County is looking for a dependable, hands-on Maintenance Technician to help keep our Binghamton Branch safe, functional, and well maintained. This part-time position is a good fit for someone with practical building-maintenance experience who can handle routine repairs, preventive maintenance, grounds work, and day-to-day facility needs.

What You'll Do

  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs, including basic electrical work, carpentry, painting, hardware, fixtures, and general building repairs.
  • Complete preventive maintenance checks and help identify problems before they become larger repairs.
  • Inspect building areas, equipment, and grounds and report issues that require outside service or additional support.
  • Help maintain the building exterior and grounds, including seasonal work, lawn care, and snow or ice response as needed.
  • Assist with room set-ups, furniture or equipment moves, special events, and other facility needs.
  • Keep tools, parts, supplies, and work areas organized and safe.
  • Respond to building issues and communicate repair needs, safety concerns, and completed work to the Maintenance Director.

Schedule

20 hours per week. The regular work schedule will be established in coordination with the Maintenance Director, providing some flexibility in how the weekly hours are arranged while ensuring consistent coverage of building and operational needs.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in building maintenance, facilities, custodial operations, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical work, carpentry, painting, mechanical systems, hand and power tools, and general repairs.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot routine facility problems safely.
  • Dependable, organized, and able to work independently while knowing when to ask for help or outside service.
  • Able to safely perform physical maintenance work, including climbing ladders, bending, kneeling, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.

Pay & Benefits

  • $18.00 per hour
  • Free YMCA membership
  • Paid sick time
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • My Better Benefits employee discount program
