Solder Specialist

The Solder Specialist is responsible for the assembly, soldering, rework, and inspection of electronic components and assemblies in accordance with applicable workmanship standards, including ANSI J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, customer specifications, and internal procedures. This position requires a high degree of precision, attention to detail, and technical proficiency to ensure the production of reliable, high-quality electronic products. The Solder Specialist supports manufacturing operations through the completion of complex soldering tasks, quality inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform hand soldering operations on through-hole, surface mount (SMT), and mixed-technology electronic assemblies.
  • Assemble printed circuit boards (PCBs), cables, harnesses, and electro-mechanical assemblies in accordance with engineering documentation and workmanship standards.
  • Conduct visual inspections of solder joints and completed assemblies to verify compliance with quality requirements.
  • Perform rework, repair, and modification of electronic assemblies as required.
  • Interpret and follow assembly drawings, schematics, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Maintain accurate production, inspection, and traceability records.
  • Utilize soldering irons, hot air equipment, microscopes, and other assembly tools safely and effectively.
  • Identify workmanship defects, process issues, and nonconforming materials and communicate findings to appropriate personnel.
  • Support root cause investigations and corrective action activities related to soldering and assembly quality issues.
  • Adhere to ESD, safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Assist with training and mentoring less experienced assemblers and operators as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Thorough understanding of electronic assembly and soldering techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions, bills of material, and work instructions.
  • Knowledge of ANSI J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, and related industry workmanship standards.
  • Familiarity with Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) handling requirements.
  • Ability to identify solder defects and perform corrective actions.
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to use microscopes, magnification equipment, and precision measuring devices.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of electronic assembly and soldering experience preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Physical/Environmental Requirements
  • This position is conducted primarily within warehouse and production environments. There will be prolonged computer use as well as frequent movement, including walking, standing, lifting, and handling materials. Work may require operating material-handling equipment and performing tasks in areas with varying temperatures, noise levels, and typical industrial conditions.
