Harm Reduction VISTA Schuyler County Public Health Dept

Rural Health Network SCNY (RHN)’s mission is to advance the health and well-being of rural people and communities. The RHN VISTA program, Rural Health Service Corps, will seek to eliminate poverty in the proposed service areas, and expects to benefit program participants, community members, and host organizations. Twelve VISTA members total will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities such as strategic planning, research, grant writing, training, volunteer management, and coalition building over the course of the next year.

Our VISTA will prevent, reduce, and delay the onset of substance use among Schuyler County youth by collaborating with community partners, promoting prevention education and substance‑free activities, and implementing environmental strategies. The volunteer will also support and expand opioid prevention and harm reduction in the community, help to keep the community prepared for emergency situations, and support the Community Health Improvement Plan.
