Job Description

The Director of Nursing is responsible for providing clinical and administrative leadership to the nursing department, ensuring high-quality healthcare services, regulatory compliance, and positive health outcomes for the individuals we support. This role oversees nursing staff, develops clinical programs, and serves as a key partner to agency leadership in advancing healthcare initiatives.

  • Provide direct clinical and administrative supervision of nursing staff, including hiring, training, coaching, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Oversee nursing services and ensure compliance with OPWDD regulations, agency policies, and best practices.
  • Coordinate program intakes and assess individual medical needs.
  • Develop and oversee nursing care plans and health-related supports.
  • Ensure coordination of medical services with physicians, pharmacies, therapists, and other healthcare providers.
  • Monitor medical documentation and conduct audits to ensure regulatory compliance and quality standards.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain healthcare-related policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Lead and oversee medical training programs, including medication administration, CPR, First Aid, and other required certifications.
  • Participate in and coordinate the nursing on-call system.
  • Investigate medication errors, incidents, and accidents and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Conduct nursing meetings and provide ongoing education and guidance to staff.
  • Support infection prevention efforts and identify and mitigate risks related to communicable diseases.
  • Partner with agency leadership to continuously improve healthcare systems, employee engagement, and service quality.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license meeting agency insurance requirements.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the New York State Department of Education.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of nursing experience, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
  • Knowledge of OPWDD regulations and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
