Laboratory FocusThe Auditory Cognitive Neuroscience Research Laboratory at Binghamton University (PI: Sung-Joo Lim; ) is seeking a laboratory assistant. The lab investigates the interaction between perception and cognition, with a particular focus on the cognitive and brain mechanisms underlying speech and language processing. The research employs multimodal neuroimaging (EEG and fMRI), behavioral methods, and modeling techniques to study perceptual and cognitive flexibility across multiple timescales.
Responsibilities- The laboratory assistant will oversee the daily operations of the lab, implement and conduct behavioral and neuroimaging studies (e.g., MRI and EEG), perform data analysis, and carry out administrative duties including coordinating IRBs and other research documentation, purchasing materials, managing lab equipment, and scheduling and recruiting participants.
- The laboratory assistant will also have the opportunity to develop their own research projects, collaborate on publications, attend conferences, participate in research seminars and reading groups, and teach and supervise undergraduate researchers.
- This position is ideal for individuals who are interested in gaining additional research experience before pursuing a doctorate degree in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, or communication sciences and disorders.
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science, speech/hearing sciences, linguistics, computer science, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
- Strong quantitative, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be self‑motivated, mature, and able to interact with human subjects across a wide age range.
- Ability to multitask between academic and administrative responsibilities.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Research experience in cognitive psychology, speech communication, or neuroimaging labs.
- Strong quantitative skills, including programming experience with scientific software such as MATLAB, Python, R, Linux, FSL/AFNI/SPM, Free Surfer, etc.
