Job Summary
Instructional Support Assistant (SL‑1) – Lab Assistant in the Abi‑Ghanem Lab, Binghamton University. The role focuses on behavioral, histological, and molecular experiments involving oligodendrocyte and myelin in mouse models of neurological disease. The position is fully in‑person, temporary (one year with potential renewal), and may offer co‑authorship opportunities for those pursuing graduate study in neuroscience.
Key Responsibilities- Become proficient in laboratory techniques and manage rodent colonies, including animal husbandry, genotyping, and general maintenance.
- Maintain inventory of lab supplies and equipment, ensuring a safe work environment.
- Assist in training new lab members and support the planning and execution of experiments.
- Possibility to lead projects and contribute to manuscript or presentation authorship.
- Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by experimental timelines.
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology, or related discipline by June 1 2026.
- At least 6 months of experience working with rodent models (full or part‑time, paid or unpaid).
- Demonstrated quantitative and critical‑thinking skills through coursework or research.
- Familiarity with cellular, molecular biology, and basic chemistry.
- Willingness and ability to work with mice and rats.
- Experience with rodent models in neuroscience research.
- Background in neuroscience, myelin biology, dementia, or sex differences.
- Experience with rodent behavioral testing.
- Visa sponsorship not available.
- This position is a Campus Security Authority for Clery Act compliance.
