Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Fleet Mechanic to perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on company vehicles including school buses, motorcoaches, and support vehicles. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
General Accountabilities- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on buses and company vehicles
- Perform preventative maintenance in accordance with manufacturer and company standards
- Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
- Troubleshoot and repair diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, brakes, and HVAC systems
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
- Assist in ordering and maintaining parts inventory
- Respond to road calls and perform emergency repairs when needed
- Operate company equipment and tools in a safe and professional manner
- Collaborate with drivers and management to address vehicle concerns
- Perform lot & facility maintenance as needed
- Keep the lot clean, free of debris, snow, or hazards
- Maintain signage, cones, barriers, and designated parking zones.
- Report safety concerns, vehicle damage, or hazards immediately to management.
- Assist with organizing tools, equipment, and supplies.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience as a fleet, diesel, or heavy vehicle mechanic
- Valid driver's license (CDL with Passenger endorsement preferred or willingness to obtain)
- Knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, electrical systems, and vehicle diagnostics
- Ability to pass background check and drug/alcohol screening
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs
- Basic computer skills for maintenance record-keeping
