Software Engineer
Overview
The Software Development Technical Manager role requires a blend of personnel and technical management skills. Primary technical responsibilities include providing technical guidance for design, implementation, and unit test of new software features, estimating implementation schedules and resources, and interfacing with other departments to ensure features are implemented, delivered, and documented properly. Primary personnel responsibilities include mentoring, developing our staff’s technical skills, and giving performance reviews.
The focus of this role is to drive major software release adoption through continuous improvement of the core platform’s existing technical capabilities, and to provide technical support for existing customer upgrades and new customer go lives. You will lead a team of direct reports and collaborate with other developers and cross-functional teams depending on initiatives and timelines. This role also requires leadership in risk management discussions and coordinating follow-on customer-identified resolutions for each release, including patch scheduling and release planning.
You’ll Do
- Manages priority, schedule, and technical development for a software development team of 5-10 people
- Collaborates with product managers and technical product managers to understand and influence product direction, roadmap and high-level requirements for new projects
- Provides technical direction to the development team and ensures designs and implemented code meet high-level project requirements and quality standards
- Provides frequent feedback to other departments on design and implementation progress and adjusts development efforts as needed
- Works closely with Customer Operations, Customer Experience, Software Implementation, and Program Management to synchronize activities
- Mentors the development team and supports growth paths for individual team members
- Creates and collects metric data to monitor stability and effectiveness of the software team
- Helps minimize cost, increase quality, and increase output through process, staffing, and technology changes
- Supports and maintains understanding of other organizations as needed and provides support
- Performs employee reviews
- Provides weekly project status updates
- Participates in weekly change control board meetings
- Collaborates with the Software Implementation Team to deliver after-hours support for customer upgrades, typically scheduled during nights and weekends
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Software Engineering or related field
- Knowledge of the Healthcare IT industry with focus in Pharmacy
- 3+ years of experience in the Software Engineering field or related area
- 5+ years of software architecture development experience
- 5+ years of experience using event-focused programming in UI and database development
- 5+ years of experience with relational databases and SQL (Microsoft SQL Server/Linux)
- Experience with Visual Basic 6 and Visual Basic .NET
- Experience with Microsoft Team Foundation Server and Azure Dev Ops
- 5 years of experience managing small to medium-sized software development teams
- 5 years of experience with Microsoft OS and Microsoft Office
- Familiar with waterfall and agile concepts, practices, and procedures within software development
- Understanding of software product life cycles
- Ability to travel up to 25%
