Job Summary

  • Assists with transporting clients, ensures adherence to safety rules, and assists passengers in boarding or exiting, as necessary.

General Accountabilities

  • Transfers passengers into and out of medical equipment including wheelchairs, stair‑chairs and stretchers.
  • Lift passengers up and down stairs in medical equipment.
  • Companion assistant to transport passengers.
  • Complies with DOH regulations to operate medical equipment in a safe and courteous manner.
  • Maintains order among passengers during trips to ensure safety.
  • Checks the condition of medical equipment to ensure working order.
  • Reports any malfunctions or repairs needed.
  • Assists pick up and drop off passengers at designated locations, following schedules.
  • Maintains knowledge of first‑aid procedures.
  • Prepares and submits reports that may include the number of passengers or trips, hours worked, mileage, fuel consumption, or fares received.
  • Reads maps and follows written and verbal geographic directions.
  • Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort.
  • Keeps bus interiors clean for passengers.
  • Reports delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations.

Job Qualifications

  • Education:

    High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience:

    Direct care of people with disabilities requiring assistance
