Job Description - Staff Accountant - Lease Accounting (260000AT)
OverviewStaff Accountant - Lease Accounting at our corporate office in Birmingham, AL. This position is part of the Lease Team. You will be responsible for the management of the leases between Vulcan and our landowners. This involves understanding the lease contracts and serving as the primary contact for these landowners. Rents and royalties due to landowners are calculated and paid by the Lease Team.
At each month-end you will prepare and upload assigned calculation files and journal entries to close the General Ledger, and perform reconciliations of assigned General Ledger accounts for accuracy.
- Leases: Input new and amended leases into our lease management software.
- Landowners: Respond to landowner inquiries and change requests; prepare and send monthly statements.
- Tasks: Complete assigned tasks such as inflations, true-ups, reporting.
- Month-End Tasks: Process and prepare month-end calculation files, journal entries, reconcile accounts, and issue payments.
- Maintain Records: Maintain accounting records in accordance with Company policies and GAAP.
- Prepare Reports: Prepare annual tax work papers, 10K schedules, and other monthly and quarterly reports as required.
- Collaborate: Assist your supervisor and other coworkers as needed. Provide assistance on time-sensitive special projects and contribute to team effectiveness.
- Education: Must have a BS Degree in Accounting and/or related field.
- Experience: Minimum of two years of general accounting or cost accounting experience. Lease Accounting, public accounting, and/or CPA experience is a plus.
