Staff Accountant Birmingham, Alabama $70,000 - $80,000 + Bonus Our client is seeking a staff accountant to assist the finance leadership team with day-to-day accounting operations and internal financial reporting. This is a full-time, in-office role focused on maintaining accurate records and supporting monthly and annual close activities within a logistics-focused business unit. In this role, you will work closely with the assistant controller to manage general ledger activity, analyze financial results, and ensure account accuracy.

The position requires hands-on involvement across multiple accounting functions and consistent collaboration with internal teams.

What You'll Do:

• Compile and support monthly internal financial reports with appropriate backup and account detail
• Prepare and post journal entries and ensure proper classification within the general ledger
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts and bank activity and investigate variances
• Review income statement results and perform monthly account-level analysis
• Provide accounting support for payables and receivables as workload requires
• Process weekly payments for agents and respond to questions or discrepancies
• Prepare requested schedules and documentation for external audit reviews
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close procedures
• Maintain organized electronic accounting records and support documentation
• Generate routine and special financial reports for internal management use
• Identify and assist with improvements to accounting workflows and controls

What We're Looking For:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting required
• Three to five years of hands-on accounting experience required
• Working knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting concepts
• Advanced Excel skills with experience handling large data sets
• Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage competing deadlines in a structured office environment
• Self-directed work style with the ability to collaborate across teams
