We are currently seeking a Tax Supervisor to join our team in Birmingham, AL. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic and growing firm.
Responsibilities- Run client engagements from start to finish, including planning, executing, directing, and completing tax projects while managing budgets.
- Supervise, train, and mentor staff on tax projects and assess staff performance for engagement reviews; act as in‑charge leader as needed.
- Review tax returns prepared by staff, providing recommendations on accuracy and tax savings opportunities; increase responsibility in the review process over time.
- Prepare tax returns for complex individual, trust, and flow‑through entities.
- Research and consult on various tax matters, utilizing tax‑related software to prepare and process returns and conduct research.
- Respond to inquiries from the IRS and other tax authorities.
- Meet or exceed chargeable hour targets.
- Enter time and expenses promptly to support efficient billing processes.
- Maintain compliance with all firm policies and procedures.
- Develop referral sources through community, social, business, and professional organizations, as well as alumni functions.
- Identify market and sales opportunities and assist management in capturing them.
- Represent and actively promote the firm.
- Travel to client meetings occasionally.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting;
Master’s degree in taxation or equivalent preferred. - Minimum of 4+ years of progressive tax preparation experience.
- CPA license preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and tax software, including Pro Systems and CCH.
- Technical proficiency in corporate, international, federal, state, and local tax; solid background in corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, C Corps, partnerships and individual/trusts.
- Strong tax accounting skills with proficiency in US GAAP, tax compliance, corporate consolidated returns, consolidated federal tax returns, partnership returns, and combined state tax returns.
- Ability to manage staff on multiple engagements.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, initiative, and leadership skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline‑driven environment.
- Maintains a high level of professionalism and consistently demonstrates respect for others.
