Purpose of the Position: The University of Alabama in Huntsville is seeking a Student Accounts Coordinator within the Office of the Bursar. This role is vital in managing the accounts management and reconciliation and NFLP processes and procedures. Processes will include student accounts and facilitating funding from third-party agencies to support students' educational goals. Responsibilities include overseeing student account sponsor ships, billing, collecting, and reconciling funds from external agencies for tuition, fees, and other charges.

The Student Accounts Coordinator provides excellent customer service through the call center, email, and in-person service, helping students understand their accounts and sponsor billing procedures. This position requires adherence to policies and regulations, attention to detail, teamwork, and strong organizational skills to manage competing priorities. The Coordinator will also assist in reconciling accounts to the general ledger and perform other duties as assigned to ensure the highest level of service for students, parents, faculty, and staff.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Manage and research the accounts reconciliation and receivables processes and procedures. Resolve student account inquiries from students, departments, and third-party and NSLDS account management activities.
  • Process third-party contracts using the Banner AR contract module and collect sponsor authorizations.
  • Handle specialized billing, invoices, and receipts to ensure students receive funds from appropriate parties.
  • Oversee billing and accounts receivable activities, including customer maintenance, printing invoices, collections, and billing correspondence.
  • Collaborate to research and resolve disputed delinquent accounts, recommending adjustments or misapplied payments and tuition reversals.
  • Bill sponsors, monitor receivables, manage overdue payments, reconcile contract receivables, and provide management reports.
  • Reconcile payments to student accounts, third-party contracts, loan programs, and clearing accounts with the bank and general ledger.
  • Accurately account for monies and receipts following established procedures.
  • Provide accurate information to students, faculty, and staff regarding account and payment issues to prevent increases in accounts receivable.
  • Help students, faculty, and staff with payments, payment plans, and related issues, including in-person payments.
  • Research account payments and provide updates and assistance with departmental reconciliation as needed.
  • Assist with various administrative functions, processes, and systems related to student accounts and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and years of work experience.
  • 3 - 5 years of verifiable, full-time work experience (which should include account reconciliation).
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, email, and databases is required.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in educational accounting or with student accounts is preferred, including Banner.

Published Salary (if available): $44,916 - $48,500
