Overview
Naph Care is hiring a Mental Health Clerk to join our team of medical professionals at the Birmingham Community Work Based Facility in Birmingham, AL.
As a Correctional Mental Health Clerk, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide administrative and clerical support to the Mental Health Director and Health Services Administrator in a controlled environment where security is a top priority.
Responsibilities- Manage all incoming calls, direct or transfer calls to appropriate staff, retrieve all voicemails daily and return calls as necessary.
- Use Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) to prepare reports, memos and correspondence; also use X-Jail and Tech Care software.
- Perform clerical functions including tracking supplies, creating purchase orders for outside vendors, and distributing mail.
- Enter client data into Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, including case notes, payments and scheduling.
- Shred all documentation containing Patient Health Information (PHI).
- Coordinate with Records Department for archiving files and reports.
- Coordinate volunteer services.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, time‑management and multitasking ability.
- Ability to obtain BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred).
- Minimum one year of clerical experience, preferably in a correctional setting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance‑abuse issues.
- Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and confidential information and adhere to a Code of Conduct and all corporate policies.
- Pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
Perform in an environment that may be less than pristine and handle stressful situations while maintaining physical and mental health.
