About Birmingham Community Impact Fund (BCIF)
Established in 2022, BCIF is a wholly owned nonprofit loan fund subsidiary of Urban Impact, Inc., currently pursuing CDFI certification through the U.S. Department of the Treasury. BCIF expands access to capital and financial education to support business growth in underserved communities across metro Birmingham.
Position OverviewTheLoan Fund Manager (LFM) reports directly to the President and CEO and plays a central role in developing and managing BCIF’s expanding financial services program. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape and grow an emerging, community-focused financial institution while contributing meaningfully to Birmingham’s evolving small business ecosystem. The LFM advances small business growth by delivering accelerator level technical assistance, coaching, and microlending services;
guiding borrowers through each stage of the loan process; and helping entrepreneurs navigate the complexities of business financing to meet both current and future operational needs. The role also oversees the sustainability, performance, and day-to-day operations of the fund.
This role requires an entrepreneurial mindset, strong analytical skills, and the ability to scale this new microloan fund through proactive leadership and disciplined execution.
1. Ecosystem Engagement and Business Development (20%)- Build and maintain relationships with banks, CDFIs, business support organizations, and ecosystem partners to generate strong loan opportunities.
- Conduct outreach and presentations to promote BCIF’s products and services.
- Participate in business and financial sector events to stay informed on market trends, needs, and identify new opportunities.
- Provide structured training, counseling, and technical assistance to help eligible clients access and succeed with BCIF loan products.
- Support borrowers through the underwriting process, ensuring a smooth and informed experience.
- Deliver or coordinate business support services (financial management, IT, HR, legal, marketing, administrative) that strengthen client performance and loan outcomes.
- Assess borrowing needs and structure loans that balance client goals with BCIF’s lending standards and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Collect and analyze due diligence materials and underwrite loans aligned with BCIF risk policies, management and Board expectations.
- Under the direction of the CEO, plan and facilitate meetings with the BCIF Board of Directors and lead the loan presentation, discussion, and review process.
- Manage the loan closing process with borrowers and internal/external partners.
- Ensure accurate data in , BCIFLMS, and related systems.
- Track portfolio performance, prepare compliance and financial reports, and create client workout strategies as needed.
- Monitor covenant compliance, maintain client relationships, and deliver high quality customer service.
- Collaborate with staff, management, and the Board to gather impact data, highlight success stories, and evaluate overall program performance.
- Participate in internal work groups and organizational initiatives.
